We have partnered with a national leader in Forensic Engineering and Expert Consulting services. They specialize in investigating building failures, product liability cases, fire and explosion analysis, and building system malfunctions. Their team of experts provide technical clarity for legal, insurance, and corporate clients across a wide range of industries.

Locations: United States – (New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mid-Senior Level Mechanical Engineer with experience in design and investigating incidents involving mechanical systems and components, conduct failure analysis, write expert reports, and provide testimony when needed. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your mechanical engineering knowledge in a dynamic and investigative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct forensic investigations into mechanical failures involving HVAC systems, engines, boilers, pumps, compressors, industrial machinery, appliances, etc.
  • Perform site inspections, evidence collection, and detailed failure analysis.
  • Develop technical reports, including root cause analyses, diagrams, and findings.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, electrical, structural, and fire protection engineers.
  • Provide expert witness testimony and litigation support, including depositions and courtroom appearances.
  • Maintain case documentation in accordance with internal protocols and legal standards.
  • Communicate findings clearly to clients, attorneys, and insurance adjusters.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME or MSME)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in at least one U.S. state (or ability to obtain)
  • 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience (preferably including failure analysis or design review)
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, especially technical writing
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed (typically regional)
  • Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in forensic engineering, insurance investigations, or expert witness testimony
  • Experience with fire protection systems, HVAC, pressure vessels, or rotating machinery
  • Knowledge of codes and standards such as ASME, NFPA, ASTM, and building codes
  • Additional licenses or certifications (e.g., CFEI, ACTAR, LEED, etc.)
