Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accident Reconstruction Engineer to join our client’s team in Los Angeles, CA. As an Accident Reconstruction Engineer, you will be responsible for investigating and analysing motor vehicle accidents, determining their causes, and providing expert opinions on collision dynamics. Your work will play a vital role in legal cases, insurance claims, and safety evaluations.

The company are industry leaders in Accident Reconstruction and one of premier forensic engineering and litigation/claims consulting firms in California. They are mid-sized with just under 50 consultants and have over 100 years of combined litigation consulting experience and offices across the Los Angeles and San Diego areas.

They specialize in investigating accidents in the issues of cars, trucks, motorcycles, bicycles, and pedestrian collisions, with an expert depth of knowledge in electronic vehicle data, safety systems, vehicle dynamics, component design, head protection, injury biomechanics, and more.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accident Analysis: Conduct detailed investigations and reconstruct accident scenes to determine the sequence of events leading up to the crash. Analyze physical evidence such as skid marks, vehicle damage, and road conditions.
  • Data Collection: Gather data from various sources including crash scene photographs, vehicle information, traffic reports, and witness statements.
  • Use of Software Tools: Utilize advanced software tools (e.g., PC-Crash, HVE, or similar accident reconstruction software) to model accidents and analyze crash data.
  • Expert Testimony: Provide expert testimony in court or arbitration hearings related to accident reconstruction, offering clear and concise explanations of findings to non-technical audiences.
  • Report Writing: Prepare thorough, accurate, and well-organized technical reports documenting the findings of the accident investigation and reconstruction process.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with law enforcement, legal teams, insurance adjusters, and other professionals involved in accident investigations.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in accident reconstruction techniques, tools, and safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree or additional certifications in Accident Reconstruction is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in accident reconstruction, forensic engineering, or a related field. Experience with vehicle dynamics, crash analysis, and simulation software is essential.
  • Licensing: Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred. Certification as an Accident Reconstructionist (e.g., by ACTAR) is a plus.

Skills:

  • Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Proficiency in accident reconstruction software (PC-Crash, HVE, etc.).
  • Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle behavior, and crash physics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a practical approach to engineering challenges.
